Hargeisa – SL ( Cabays Media) The chairman of Somaliland’s Upper House of Guurti, Hon. Saleeban Mohamed Adan pushed for extension term for the Kulmiye government on Monday’s Guurti session.

In an appealing call, the chairman requested the members to consider ways they can grant extension for the current government which its term ends on the 26th June 2015.

The Guurti chairman who has returned from unannounced visit to Britain on Sunday his arrival gave way a controversy after he blatantly said they will give an extension term before the 26th of June of this year the current government’s term runs out.

“We are not the political parties, election commissioners or the government, but we are going to act in the traditional way of granting extension” Said the chairman pushing the Guurti members to swiftly reach a decision in the controversial voting on government extension term.

Chairman Adan was speaking in the Guurti House on a regular session where more than two third of the members were in attendance.

“We should not hesitate to reach a decision and we must reach one” Said Hon. Saleebaan Adan stressing the importance of deciding how much to extend the government’s term in office.

Chairman Saleebaan Adan’s remarks cause suspicious and people are wary that the Guurti would extend longer than a year which the National Electoral Commission set for the delayed elections.

Hon. Adan said they will set up a committee to that will consult with all “Stakeholders” and come up with a recommendations that will lead to extension for the current administration.

The political parties and their allies of the pressure group called Madasha Wadada Tashiga warned against any extension for the Kulmiye government which they accused of seeking unconstitutional term extension and blamed for the election postponement for the next year.

The International Community led by the British government which help Somaliland in its democratisation process also warned against any attempts for politicized extension for the government its term ends on the 26th June of this year.

The people of Somaliland are also anxiously waiting the Guurti’s decision and how the adamant oppositions will respond since they are calling for a caretaker government after the end of current government’s term.

The Kulmiye government and opposition parties are trading accusations at each other and each side claiming for upholding the rule of the land.
