Hargeisa- SL (Cabays Media) – The British ambassador to Ethiopia and Somaliland, Neil Wigan has welcomed the end of the Somaliland’s election dispute by the ruling government and oppositions.

“I just want ot congratulate the republic of Somaliland and particularly the minister of aviation and all of his team for the fantastic achievement work we see today..” Said Amb. Wigan speaking at the ceremony packed with dignitaries and other guests celebrating for Somaliland’s main airport modernization with the Kuwait’s more than 10 million dollars funds for Somaliland’s airports.

“I think new modern airport like this will be a huge asset for Somaliland and it represnts great image of Somaliland for as the first thing visitors see when they arrive” Said Amb. Wigan encouraging Somaliland’s developments such as the airport.

Welcoming the end of the political deadlock over  Somaliland’s controversial  elections postponement and the Guurti’s decision to hold elections in the year 2017 instead of earlier date, Amb. Wigan said “I also like to say, as Somaliland partner it’s pleasure to see all Somaliland political class, the government, the opposition, but also all Somaliland society , the clan elders, the religious leaders, all uniting together in support of Somaliland development”

“So it will assure you as long as see this determination to build prosperity and stability in Somaliland that the British government continue to be your partner and to support development for Somaliland” concluded ambassador Wigan in his short speech  but didn’t mention why he was in Somaliland at a time the political deadlock was at its end point and the ruling and the opposition parties have already reached an agreement settling their difference on when elections can be held.

Some analyst say Ambassasdor Niel Wigan’s visit is part of the international pressure on Kulmiye government to accept the oppositions proposals reversing the hastened decision by the Guurti in postponing elections for nearly two years while the national electoral commission said the can hold it by June next year.
