A Republic of Djibouti’s member of parliament slammed the 18 years ruler and accused of running the country with iron fist and divide and rule. Speaking on Kalsan TV’ s political analyst show with anchor Abdillahi M. Ali , MP Doualeh Egueh Ofleh of MRD opposition party described Djibouti’s political system as one man dominated power.

In a rare opportunity that Djibouti opposition member was given on one of Somali broadcasting TVs, the MRD member of Djibouti’s parliament talked about how the government led by president Ismail Omar Guelleh restricts the movement of opposition officials by denying to issue passports, specially diplomatic passports.

“My diplomatic passport as a member of the National Assembly was revoked because I criticised the president’s policies and the way Ismail Omar Guelleh (IOG) rules the country and now I’m travelling with the normal national passport” Said MP Ofleh describing how president Guelleh curbs the movement of his national oppositions.

“On number of occasions I was stopped at the airport and denied to board on a plane simply they want me to support the government or lose my rights” Said the Djibouti’s MRD opposition MP.

MP Doualeh E. Ofleh is on visit to Britain where he said he will be meeting with British parliamentarians and  officials from Foreign Office in London’s Whitehall.

“The West and particularly the British government has a great interest about Djibouti since they all have special interest for the strategic location that Djibouti situates and we want to encounter the misrepresentation of Djibouti’s real situation by the ruling man who tries to cover up the real problems in our country” said MP Ofleh when asked what he will discuss with the British officials in London.

MP Duoaleh E. Ofleh also talked about the lack of enough water and electricity for Djibouti which has only less than 800,000 people in population and the corruption he said has rotten his country.

Asked why his party has boycotted the last April’s election declared president Ismail O. Guelleh as the country’s leader, MP Doualeh E. Ofleh described their boycott as a protest they wanted to demand a fair and free election.

“We’ve reached an agreement with other opposition parties to boycott the elections since their were no neutral national election commission and oppositions were denied equally to present their policies to the people and the use of the national media was limited to the ruling party, but other opposition parties like USN later decided to take part the  elections which caused the weakening the oppositions much further” Said MP Ofleh.

During the live program that MP Doualeh  E. Ofleh was interviewed also viewers hail from Djibouti phoned in and asked questions while some agreeing his slamming statements, like accusing the current leader of ruling Djibouti with iron fist and running the country with nepotism.

USN opposition party candidate of last election, Omar Elmi Kaireh was among the callers challenged MP Ofleh on who to blame the oppositions failure in the last election and which party abandoned the agreement could force the RPP leader, Ismail Omar Guelleh to give in oppositions.

But the MP Ofleh squarely blame the USN leaders walking away and taking part in an election he said was clear that the ruling leader would claim as the only winner.

Djibouti has more than seven opposition parties and at least five other parties that included the ruling party led by IOG as a coalition.

Asked why Djibouti which has less population than even some cities in neighbouring countries, like the Burao city in Republic of Somaliland has so many political parties, MP Doualeh E. Ofleh described the mushrooming political parties in Djibouti as a political agenda set by the current ruling president to weaken his oppositions.

“Since 1992 the number of opposition parties were increasing and since the man in power (referring IOG) came to power he deliberately manipulate oppositions by orchestrating oppositions to produce his desire , a weak and numerous oppositions”  Siad MP Ofleh, explaining why with so many opposition parties can’t yet pressure the ruling leader.

The live interview with MP Doualeh E. Ofleh was first of its kind that an opposition MP from Djibouti to appeared on Somali broadcasting TV and most Somali televisions are pro-IOG or they don’t dare to air Djibouti oppositions views as they fear the Djibouti ruler to crack down as he does not tolerate with views opposing his government.
