Hargeisa -SL (Cabays Media) – The Dubai-based Flydubai airliner launched inaugural flight to Hargeisa on Tuesday landed Hargeisa Egal International Airport, marking the launch of a direct four times weekly service to the capital city of Somaliland Republic.

Flydubai’s high level delegation was headed by Ghaith Al Ghaith, chief executive officer of flydubai, and Sudhir Sreedharan, senior vice president commercial (GCC, Subcontinent and Africa) of flydubai.

The delegation was welcomed by Somaliland’s vice president, Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail and the Mohamud Hashi Abdi, the minister of Civil Aviation and Air Transport for Somaliland, at the city’s airport.

“We strive to provide underserved markets with direct air links to Dubai. The addition of Hargeisa to our network will provide the Somali diaspora with the opportunity to visit their families and friends in their home country.  With the interline agreements we have in place, more than 250 destinations can now offer flights to Hargeisa through Dubai’s aviation hub,” Said Al Ghaith who showed great desire for connecting Hargiesa to the World via their carrier.

According to Flydubai, the Hargeisa route will see flydubai operate a total of 64 weekly flights between Dubai and destinations in Africa and more Asia destinations, but non will be direct as all flights from Hargeisa will go to Dubai first then connected to other routes.

Sources closed to Somaliland’s Civil Aviation, the Flydubai flight comes after a deal was first done in Moqadishu and Somalia’s ministry for aviation who controls all the former Somali Republic’s airspace has approved the airliner to include Hargeisa its destinations.  Also the Kulmiye government lead by president Siilaanyo had in their part done a deal with Flydubai which allowing the airliner officially launch its Hargeisa- Dubai direct flights.

Unlike the locally owned airliner Daalo Airline and others, including the Ethiopian Airline, the Fly Dubai airliner is the first airliner sought permission from Moqadishu government and Somaliland. The new airliner is cheaper and could create new competition or possibly put out of business the already struggling Somalilander owned airliners.

Flydubai also offers cargo services on all its African routes, providing cargo solutions to a network of more than 90 destinations in Africa, Middle East and Subcontinent, but it is not clear if Fly Dubai will bring cargo at Hargeisa airport which has no cargo facility.
