Response to misleading and false statements by Somalia’s President
Hargeisa, Somaliland – January 24, 2024: In reference to the irresponsible and laughable comments that the President of Somalia has been making about the history and geography of the Somali nations who live in the Horn of Africa, here below are some postage stamps from British Somaliland Protectorate, French Coast of the Somalis (Djibouti), and the Italian Colony of Somalia.

Rather than giving false information about his delusional ownership of the Republic of Somaliland, he would be better advised to learn more about the true history and geographical location of his native country, former Italian Somalia.
By contrast, Somaliland fully respects and abides by the constitution of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and that of the current African Union (AU), and fully endorses the 1964 OAU Cairo Declaration Res.16(1), which SOLEMNLY DECLARES “that all Member States pledge themselves to respect the borders existing on their achievement of national independence.”
Therefore, Somalia should remember that it was still an Italian Trusteeship when Somaliland gained its Independence on 26th June, 1960, thus becoming the 12th African country to be independent.
Finally, Somaliland urges the person who represents Somalia la Italiana and who sits on the African Union, to learn and respect the charter of this noble Organization that is, the African Union.
