In unprecedented talks with leaders that object to Somaliland’s self rule has begun in Ethiopian’s capital. The  leaders of the militia that armed itself to block Somaliland from withdrawing the failed union with Somalia and officials from the Somaliland government, and opposition party leaders have begun talks that could end the insurgency lead by Khatumo militia.

According to source close to the attendees of the talks,  the both sides, the Khatumo militia and Somaliland officials have primarily agreed to discuss issues that they differ in unprecedented platform. The issue including the talks are said to be power-sharing and re-structuring Somaliland government system in order to include the Khatumo militia into the government system.

Khatumo militia who claim to be controlling some of Somaliland’s eastern regions are forced to start talks with Somaliland after four years of unsuccessful of insurgency and attempts of derailing Somaliland progress for sovereignty.

The talks in Addis Abab are the results of intense mediation by the Ethiopian government, which is widely believed  it indirectly backed by the Addis Ababa administration but now unplugged its support.

It is not yet clear how long the talks will go on and whether any tangible results will come out, but sources closed to talks confirmed that both sides are willing to give in and push for final agreement that could enfold Khatumo into Somaliland system.
