The Somaliland team members that took part the Conifa World Cup in Abakhazia receive with heroes’ welcome both in Somaliland and in the UK, where the team squad came from.

In Somaliland’s capital six of the team members were welcomed by thousands of people cheering as they were driven from the airport through the city in a convoy of cars full of enthusiastic Somalilnaders waving their pictures and the nation’s flag.

The mayor of the capital and the local councillors as well as major advertisement company called SagalJet have took part in receiving the Somaliland team members that participated in the Conifa World Cup in a honorary dinner while congratulations from all walks of life also poured in.

The return of the four players from Conifa World Cup to Hargeisa have galvanised the football spirit in Hargeisa and Somaliland as a whole as many young footballers lookup the Conifa players as their good example of playing football not only at home but also that Somalilanders can play on world stage as well.

In London a similar welcome was also received with the Somaliland football team members that reside in the UK and their return has attracted a lot of Somalilanders resulting the team to be received in a unprecedented welcoming event in London.

When the team arrived last week they were received by huge crowd at Heathrow Airport were they spoke to the welcoming people and later taken to prestigious restaurant in West London where they had a dinner organised by members of the Somaliland’s community in West London.

The participation of Somaliland team in Conifa World Cup has uplifted the spirit of Somaliland football and the team’s presence in Abakhazia was a national pride, despite of the ill-advised ministry of sports of Somaliland’s rejection of the team representing the nation.

On Somaliland social media, like facebook there are thousands of congratulatory messages send to the Somaliland team and people expressed not only the support they have for the team but also how proud they are with the team that for the first time represented Somaliland in World stage.

Somaliland media in general also widely covered the teams story making the team as most followed Somaliland football team ever.
