Somalilanders in Britain are gearing up for a rally they demanding for a recognition for their country of Republic of Somaliland on 18th of May which marks a quarter of century of self-standing and with milestone achievements since Somaliland reclaimed its independence it gained from Britain on 26th June 1960.

An organising committee was set up last week to galvanize Somalilanders in Diaspora into action and for the first time Somaliland’s anniversary will be marked in three different events this May in UK. Somalilanders in the UK are urged to show solidarity by taking part of a rally that will take place at British Prime Minister’s office at Downing Street.

Maximising the publicity of Somaliland’s 25th anniversary and the milestone achievements, Somalilanders in the UK will also host a night for Friends of Somaliland at a prestigious dinner in London, where by members of British Parliament, politicians and lobbyists, among other guests will attend.

Somalilanders in UK will also have their traditional night for celebrating the 25th anniversary in congregating in a massive hall where singers will perform and poets will read poems praising Somaliland’s many triumphs.

But the limelight will be on the rally that will take place at Richmond Terrace, just outside number 10 Downing Street. At the rally Somalilanders lead by the Rally Committee will submit a letter demanding Somaliland’s recognition by the British government.

Somalilanders in the UK are urged to get ready for the 18th May of this year not only to celebrate in style but also to make a year that highlights Somaliland’s success and demand the right to be recognised.

In Somaliland, the government also set up the annual committee that organises the 18th May celebrations at home and this year they come up with a new slogan for Somaliland’s success as a nation that stood alone for a quarter of century. The new slogan says ‘Tranquillity with quarter of century of milestone achievements”

The rally at Downing Street will take place at 12pm to 14:00 on Wednesday the 18th May. Near Tube Station is Westminster Tube Station.

A UK based Somaliland football team is also taking part CONIFA World Cup in Abakhazia for representing Somaliland at the tournament facing each other by 12 nations. The Somaliland Football Association UK celebrate Somaliland’s day with sport events and this year they are Somaliland’s main team carrying nation’s flag at International sports event.
